Businessolver is a key heart health sponsor of the worldโs largest and longest recreational bike ride to support local communities and individual health
WEST DES MOINES, IOWA (July 23, 2018) โ ย Businessolverยฎ, a leader in SaaS-based benefits administration technology and itโs charitable arm, theย Businessolver Foundation,ย is proud to sponsor the 2018 RAGRBRAI (The Registerโs Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa), which kicked off July 22nd and finishes July 28th. Now in its 45th year, this event attracts riders from around the U.S. and the world, as they bike through communities across the entire state of Iowa, totaling nearly 500 miles in a week.
As part of the companyโs core value of โgiving back,โ Businessolver is a premier RAGBRAI sponsor, the Foundationโs third year of sponsoring the event. โAt Businessolver, our ethos is โTechnology with Heart,โ and this event truly embodies that mission,โ says Brooke Quinn, Businessolver SVP and Foundation Head. โWeโre emphasizing heart health and providing screenings along the routeโmerging technology with cardiovascular wellness for riders and communities across Iowa and from around the U.S.โ
Making a difference for heart health
For Businessolver, RAGBRAI represents an important way to honor the legacy of a former Solver, Chris Charron, who passed away after a battle with heart-related issues. โChris was an avid RAGBRAI enthusiast, and we couldnโt think of a better way to honor his memory,โ says Quinn.
Partnering with the American Heart Association, Hy-Vee, and SOLA, Businessolver will have booths at each overnight town along the route providing free blood pressure screenings. Riders are encouraged along the route to check in for a heart health screen and blood pressure test, along with key reminders on nutrition and hydration from Hy-Vee dieticians.ย The core mission in these partnerships is to drive a healthy and rewarding biking experience with no heart health related incidents throughout the week.
In addition to sponsoring the event, Businessolver launched a social media based fundraising game titled, “Where’s Tony” to raise additional funds to support the American Heart Association. Participants of the game will need to find Tony Figueiredo, one of the Businessolver RAGBRAI participant riders, who will be wearing a special bib throughout the race. Any person who spots Tony on the route, takes a photo of him, and posts the photo on social media using the hashtag #HeartSolver will trigger a donation from Businessolver to the American Heart Association.
Inspiring wellness statewide and nationwide
Started in 1973 by two Iowa journalists, John Karras and Don Kaul, RAGBRAI began as a way to document the experience of riding across the state and seeing communities up close. It quickly developed into a popular annual event with riders from all 50 states and more than 22 countries, which today hosts 8,500 week-long riders. Each year, riders join for a shorter period of time, particularly in larger metropolitan areas such as Des Moines. The number of riders can swell to upwards of 30,000 in certain locations. It is estimated that over 300,000 people have ridden at least a portion of the 19,542 miles that RAGBRAI has covered since 1973.
