Our client, RTI, didn’t just need new technology. They needed a better way to operate.

RTI, a national scientific research institute with nearly 2,800 employees, faced a familiar challenge: too many systems, too much manual work, and not enough visibility to act ahead of problems.

The RTI team works under a lot of pressure to:

  • Manage costs
  • Improve the employee benefits experience
  • Introduce and scale efficient processes
  • Create and maintain a competitive benefits program

When RTI came to us, they had just 8 weeks until their annual enrollment. And they were firm: They wanted their employees to enroll on our platform.

Why RTI needed immediate change

Like many organizations, RTI’s old approach was tangled up in fragmented systems, manual processes, limited configurability, delayed insights, and reactive service models.

This meant that the RTI admin team was spending a lot of time fixing things instead of putting their organization ahead.

The RTI team was ready to make fundamental shift to improve employee experience, HR operations, and business outcomes.

What RTI needed and how they made it happen with Businessolver

Technology that could scale and adapt

RTI’s existing environment lacked flexibility and configurability, making it difficult to evolve their benefits strategy and manage:

  • Complex eligibility groups
  • Multiple carriers and plan designs
  • Future organizational growth

The solution: RTI implemented a single-source platform through Businessolver and the Aon Benefits Exchange (BenX), consolidating enrollment, carrier management, reporting, and decision support into one configurable system.

This eliminated fragmented tools and enabled a more agile, scalable foundation—built to grow with their organization.

Service that reduces burden—not adds to it

With limited internal resources, RTI needed more than software. They needed a partner who could:

  • Drive efficiencies
  • Support implementation under a tight timeline
  • Help manage ongoing operations

The solution: RTI shifted to a proactive service model with the Businessolver team, designed for execution and consistency, enabling them to:

  • Streamline enrollment, billing, and retiree administration
  • Reduce manual processes
  • Lean on expert support for implementation and optimization

This approach allowed their small team to shift focus from reactive tasks to more strategic work.

Real-time insights and transparency

RTI also needed visibility into their benefits program—something they lacked in their prior environment. Their goal was to:

  • Access data on demand
  • Understand employee behavior and engagement
  • Forecast future costs with confidence

A lack of transparency across systems had made it difficult to make informed decisions.

The solution: With Businessolver, RTI gained real-time access to data, reporting, and interaction history, including:

  • Centralized dashboards
  • On-demand insights into enrollment and engagement
  • Visibility into service interactions and performance

Employee choice without added complexity

Employee feedback made one thing clear: they wanted more choice—but expanding options traditionally increases administrative complexity.

The solution: By moving to the BenX marketplace, RTI expanded from a single carrier to 30+ options, dramatically increasing flexibility while maintaining operational control.

The results: A platform built for anticipation—not just administration

At its core, RTI’s transformation wasn’t just about consolidating systems. It was about enabling a different model of benefits delivery. Businessolver’s benefits technology platform allowed RTI to move toward a more proactive, insight-driven approach.

  • Speed to impact: Fully implemented in under 2 months
  • Operational efficiency: Consolidated multiple systems into one platform
  • Enhanced employee experience: Increased benefit choice from 1 carrier to 30+
  • Visibility and control: Improved transparency across benefits and service
